Donation threads on SRK

I know this is a sensitive topic, especially for people who have an emotional link or some sort affinity with the recipient of donations.

My question is, if it's not someone who was known to be significant contributor to this scene, should it still be posted up? I understand awareness is important, but making someone aware is different from outright asking for money.

I don't want to start any arguments - I'm genuinely asking.
