On 18 January, 2012, The CW greenlit the pilot for a proposed Green Arrow series with Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg producing. The series, Arrow, will offer a fresh take on the character. Smallville's Justin Hartley will not be involved in the new project.

In Arrow, Oliver Queen will be in his late twenties. Dinah Laurel Lance will also be a featured character, though not as the Black Canary and using her middle name "Laurel." Oliver Queen's mother Moira is still alive in the present day, with Oliver Queen returning to "Starling City" after people believed he was dead for five years.
Moving at a seemingly rapid pace, the CW's "Green Arrow" television series, "Arrow", has cast its lead. Deadline reports that Stephen Amell has landed the Oliver Queen role, officially described in the casting sides as follows:

A 27 year old reformed bad boy, who after having spent five years shipwrecked on a tiny, brutally dangerous island in the South China Sea returns to town a different man. Or to be more specific, a tortured, thoughtful master of the bow with a ferocious determination to make a difference.

No stranger to television, Amell has appeared recently on television shows like "Hung", "90210" and "The Vampire Diaries".

Dating all the way back to 1941 when he made his first appearance in "More Fun Comics" #73, the comic book iteration of Queen is a billionaire who leads a double life as expert archer and costumed hero Green Arrow. Over the years, Queen has been a member of the Justice League and even Mayor of his hometown, Star City.

I'm surprised yet pleased that Green Arrow will be a spiritual successor to Smallville..............although I was hoping it would be Eric Kripke's adaption of Deadman.
