Excellent players you played online

For folks that still regularly play SF: OE, list tags that you remember fighting against and getting your ass royally handed to you lol. I usually learn a thing or two about this game I didn't know before after playing some of these folks. I'll start the list:
PSN Network
Hard_Bread - overall A-game player. Knows the char's usual routine and punishes accordingly.
Teen_Hearts - sick player! Awesome execution and sick Oro play. Once you get MP' in the air, its pretty much game over lol.
EddieRoids- Excellent Hugo; standing qk-->grab shenanigans galore. My Q doesn't usually have issue with Hugo but Eddies just gives me headache lol.
MrCalculus(sp?)- Excellent Urien player. Better stand up asap or eat Door traps all day long.

There are a few more I can't remember atm. I'll post more later. If you see these folks in random rank/pub match room, bring your A-game.

Man kills stepfather with Atomic Wedgie

An Oklahoma man was arrested Tuesday on murder charges after a medical examiner ruled his stepfather was killed in a fight that involved blows to the head… and an “atomic wedgie.”

The Oklahoman reported 33-year-old Brad Davis allegedly “jumped” his stepfather, 58-year-old Denver Lee St. Clair, in his home in McLoud, Okla., on Dec. 21. Amy Elliott, the spokewoman for the state’s medical examiner’s office, told the newspaper St. Clair’s cause of death was deemed to be blunt force trauma to the head and asphyxiation.

How, you might ask, would a wedgie lead to asphyxiation? An atomic wedgie is when the waistband of someone’s underwear is stretched over the wearer’s head. Pottawatomie County Sheriff Mike Booth told The Oklahoman St. Clair was found with his underwear pulled over his back and head, the waistband around his neck.

“I’d never seen this before, but when we first looked at our victim seeing the waistband of his underwear was around his neck,” Booth told the newspaper.

At the time Davis was arrested Tuesday, no formal charges had been brought, but KOCO-TV reported Wednesday that he had been charged with first-degree murder.

According to the Shawnee News-Star, the arrest warrant recorded that Davis admitted he hit St. Clair several times and performed the atomic wedgie. The men were fighting about a financial issue. KOCO reported that Davis also was upset at harsh words by St. Clair directed toward his mother.

The FINAL FANTASY XIV™ Thread: SRKGD's Goin' Balls Deep #Kreygasm

Yeah, we have the FF thread, but FFXIV is such a huge game... I don't want to clutter the FF thread with every little FFXIV thing that comes by. Plus, we need a listing of SRK players, their time zones, and their characters' names, races, etc so we can coordinate and do shit together. We can also plan raids and shit with this thread.

99% of SRKGD is playing on the LEVIATHAN server/world. If you want to roll with us, that's the server/world to choose when creating your character.

Post up your character's name, race, starting nation, primary job/class, and your area/time zone, and I'll list them below.

Also, the SRKGD Linkshell will be sending out invites in a few hours. You must be on the list below to get sent an invite.

Quick Guides:

Leveling
FATE grinding is the fastest way to level at the moment. Here are recommended locations based on level:

1-13: No FATEs. Clear your Hunting Log instead.
13-21: Western La Noscea - Aleport/Swiftperch Teleport
21-27: Southern Shroud - Quarrymill Teleport
27-35: Eastern La Noscea - Costa Del Sol Teleport
35-42: Coerthas Central Highlands - Dragonhead Teleport
42-50: Northern Thanalan - Ceruleum Processing Plant Teleport

How to FATE successfully:
1. Join party
2. Check map for FATEs
3. If FATE has existed for less than 2 mins, teleport/chocobo there ASAP.
4. Get first claim if possible.
5. Spam AoEs until FATE is 80% complete.
6. Check map for next FATE.
7. Repeat from Step 3.

Pro Tip 1: Stay in central ground so you are about equal distance from everything.
Pro Tip 2: If you are CNJ, unlock GLD and learn Flash to use as AoE. If you hit 30 and get WHM, don't equip WHM gem (WHMs can't use Flash). Stay as CNJ to spam AoEs. Don't forget to re-equip WHM gem every multiple of 5 level to do WHM job quests.

Beyond Level 50
If you're wondering what to do once you hit 50, check below:

1. Finish Story if you haven't. Post game content only becomes available after completing the final story battle in The Praetorium.
2. Castrum Meridianum. You get 100 tomes of philosophy every time you clear CM. You use phil tomes to buy Darklight gear, from the NPC names Auriana at Mor Dhona (Revenant's Toll Teleport). Generally, body and leg pieces cost 825 tomes each, hands/feet/head cost 495 each, and all accessories cost 375 each. Prices differ for tanks and mages because their body piece covers the head as well. Using the prices I listed for standard DPS roles, it will cost you ~5385 tomes of philosophy to be fully equipped in Darklight gear, which = 54 CM runs. I recommend getting the accessories first, then Body/Leg, then Hands/Feet/Head.
3. While you're grinding for phil tomes, go to Waking Sands in Western Thanalan to find post-game missions. Namely, the mission that unlocks Hard Mode Ifrit. Unlock HM Ifrit in the Duty Finder by completing the quest, and start doing runs. Ifrit drops a random weapon for a random job (100% drop rate) if killed. It's a 1/9 or ~11% chance that it drops the weapon for your class. Keep doing Ifrit HM until you get your weapon.
4. With your Ifrit weapon and a few DL gear, you can begin comfortably doing Amdapor Keep runs. You unlock AK by completing a quest offered at Vesper Bay (Where Waking Sands is). AK is the most important run you can do at this point, because it gives you 40 tomes of mythology (in addition to 80 tomes of philosophy) every time it's cleared. You need myth tomes to buy your relic armor piecea. The prices for your relic armor pieces are the same amount as Darklight, except you use myth to buy instead of phil. You are capped at gaining only 300 myth tomes a week, so it will take 3 weeks to save up enough to buy your relic body piece, for example. 300 myth tomes = 8 AK runs. So it's best to get your 8 runs out of the way early in the week, so you can do CM runs and other stuff for the rest of the week. AK chests also drop some nice gear to tide you over until you get more Darklights.
5. Sometime between AK runs, go to Vesper Bay and speak with the NPC Nedrick Ironheart (He gives the quest for AK and others) to flag the Relic Reborn quest, which rewards you with your Relic Weapon when you clear the entire quest line. After speaking with him, go to Revenant's Toll (Teleport) and speak with NPC Rowena. Then teleport to Fallgourd Floats (Northern Shroud), chocobo to Hyrstmill, and speak to NPC Gerolt.
-5a. Get the broken weapon from where he asks you to. Refer to the list below for your job/class:
Bard: Natalan
Black Mage: U'Ghamaro Mines
Dragoon: Natalan
Monk: Zaha'rak
Paladin: Zaha'rak
Scholar: Sapsa Spawning Grounds
Summoner: Sylphlands
Warrior: U'Ghamaro Mines
White Mage: U'Ghamaro Mines
-5b. Go back to NPC Gerolt. You now have to buy a special weapon and 2 level III materias to meld to the weapon. Refer to the list below for the weapon/materia you need based on your job/class:
Bard: Longarm's Composite Bow (Materia: Heavens Eye III)
Black Mage: Sanguine Scepter (Materia: Savage Might III)
Dragoon: Champion's Lance (Materia: Savage Aim III)
Monk: Wilding Cesti (Materia: Savage Aim III)
Paladin: Aeolian Scimitar (Materia: Battledance III)
Scholar: Erudite's Picatrix Of Healing (Materia: Quicktongue III)
Summoner: Erudite's Picatrix Of Casting (Materia: Savage Might III)
Warrior: Barbarian's Bardiche (Materia: Battledance III)
White Mage: Madman's Whispering Rod (Materia: Quicktongue III)
I recommend buying the weapon and materia through the Market Board, then /search for a level 50 crafter who can meld the materia to the weapon for you. Return the weapon to NPC Gerolt.
-5c. Kill the Dhorme Chimera. This is an 8-man instance in Coerthas Central Highlands. Just teleport to Dragonhead and /shout for a group. Or go with FC/LS mates.
-5d. Go back to NPC Gerolt, then teleport to Revenant's Toll and talk to NPC Rowena.
-5e. Clear Amdapor Keep. Just clearing it will get you the item. It's not something you have to search for. If you've cleared AK before this, you'll have to re-clear again. Return to NPC Rowena, then return to NPC Gerolt.
-5f. Kill 24 beastmen. 8 x 3 types. Check list below for your class:
Bard: Natalan - (8) Bloodwings, (8) Fogcallers, and (8) Windtalons
Black Mage: U'Ghamaro Mines - (8) Quarrymen, (8) Bedesmen, and (8) Preists
Dragoon: Natalan - (8) Bloodwings, (8) Fogcallers, and (8) Swiftbeaks
Monk: Zaha'rak - (8) Lancers, (8) Pugilists, and (8) Archers
Paladin: Zaha'rak - (8) Lancers, (8) Pugilists, and (8) Thaumaturges
Scholar: Sapsa - (8) Shelfspine, (8) Shelfclaw, and (8) Shelftooth
Summoner: Sylphlands - (8) Sighs, (8) Screeches, and (8) Snarls
Warrior: U'Ghamaro Mines - (8) Quarrymen, (8) Bedesmen, and (8) Priests
White Mage: U'Ghamaro Mines - (8) Quarrymen, (8) Bedesmen, and (8) Priests
Go back to NPC Gerolt.
-5g. Kill the Hydra. The Hydra is at the same place Halitali is (Eastern Thanalan). /shout for group or go with your people. After killing it, go back to NPC Gerolt.
-5h. Kill HM Ifrit, Garuda, and Titan. /shout for group or go with your people and kill them. If you killed Ifrit before for your weapon, you'll have to re-kill again. The rest is continued from #6 onward.
6. At about 60-75% Darklight, go back to Waking Sands and flag the Hard Mode Garuda quest. Clear the quest to unlock HM Garuda in Duty Finder. Clear HM Garuda for a chance to get her weapon (same chances of dropping as Ifrit). It's not a priority getting her weapon. The priority here is to just clear it, so you can get the clear for your Relic weapon and to unlock HM Titan.
7. Get 80-95% Darklight (By now, you may even have enough saved to buy a relic Body/Leg piece, go back to Waking Sands, flag and clear the Hard Mode Titan quest. Unlock it in Duty Finder and clear Titan. The weapon doesn't matter at all.
8. Buy Radz-at-Han Quenching Oil. It's 900 phil tomes, and Auriana sells them. You will need to buy this and go to NPC Gerolt to clear the Relic Reborn quest line and finally get your Relic Weapon.
9. Grind CM and AK until you have at least your Relic body and all Darklight, then you can begin The Binding Coil of Bahamut, the final endgame dungeon/instance in the game. You flag the quest to unlock BCoB by talking to Urianger in the Walking Sands after clearing HM Titan. Then you go to Wineport in Eastern La Noscea to speak to a couple of NPCs to unlock it.
10. Clear BCoB and work on getting BCoB gear. The Binding Coil has 5 levels, or "turns." Each subsequent turn is harder than the previous, obviously. You need to be armed to the teeth and skilled to comfortably clear Turns 1 through 3. I know nothing about the last 2 turns.
11. Level 2nd class, or level crafting class, or make dat paypuh~, or chill/wait 'til 2.1 in Nov/Dec.

Making the thread so we can combine our efforts and do this as soon as we can. I am going to try to get my hands on a controller asap.

P.S. This may be a little early but..... the people need this. Also missed Team tech talk, sup. If you are a big dog around here, please reply below, I only know OG's.

Need suggestions on joystick recommendation based on preferences.

I've done some reading on Slagcoin.com and now I realize what kind of traits I should focus on. So far joysticks differences are mainly.

•Engage Distance
•Throw Distance
•Tension
•Pivot Quality
•Neutral Precision
•Engage Precision
•Durability

I am a Tekken player first of all. My old arcade stick was a "Hori Fighting Stick 3", I loved the joystick on that arcade stick but I do not have any idea what brand it is although I would like to know. http://www.amazon.com/PS3-Fighting-Stick-3-Playstation/dp/B000MWE3BI/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_i
Based off description of most joysticks I'm guessing it's most likely a Happ. I've read on joysticks but even with all the information it's hard to figure out exactly what it is that I'm looking for because I don't have experience using different joysticks.

So far I think I'm looking for a stick with a short-medium engage distance, short throw distance, heavy tension, average - high pivot quality, good neutral precision, good engage precision, and of course durability. I play Tekken so I need to make back-neutral-back-downback motions often along with forward-neutral-down-downforward motions often as well. I also prefer a square gate if that is important.

I have a Sanwa-JLF but the problem with this joystick is that I feel as if too much movement is required in general. On my old arcade stick I did a very quick back-back-downback motion without really ever having to think about the neutral input. On this Sanwa-JLF I have to actually make sure it goes back to neutral which really hinders me; it also has a long throw distance which isn't good because I need to make quick double back or forward movements consecutively.

What kind of joystick do you think fits my preference?

EDIT: I use a Madcatz Soul Calibur 5 Soul Edition for PS3

Before some *** that fell off the GameFaqs shortbus comes in here and tries to correct me, yes, I'm well aware it's not called "Gundam Warriors", but the real US name is fucking retarded and we all know what I'm talking about.

Anyways, I've been pumped as hell for DWG2 lately, so as a result I bought Samurai Warriors 2 for 360 and just now finished unlocking everyone but Ranmaru. Mitsuhide's stealth mission is making me want to put my balls in a blender.

Also, did anyone actually like the combat system in DW6? Or like DW6 in general? I feel like a sucker, but I'm actually really wanting DW6 Empires... :shake:

I know it's still the Renbu system... But c'mon, it's Empires, which means it rocks so HORD, and the CAW looks like it's gonna be gdlk.

Anyone know of Youtube accounts or the like that carry newer matchvids? X360 and PS3 would be fine. I follow this one currently:

http://www.youtube.com/user/BrettH123?feature=g-all-u

On that note, I did take a little initiative and recorded some of the locals in their arcade casuals. The thing with the Philippines though, is that it's level 1/low damage, so it's quite different from the regular game. Lots of Iceman/Iron Man/Doom/Cable for example. As there are more UMvC3 players than MvC2 players now (the latter are still more of arcadegoers than console users), better something than nothing.

Rapper Flavor Flav was arrested Thursday morning after State Police troopers caught him speeding and driving with a suspended license on the Meadowbrook State Parkway in Hempstead, police said.

The music artist, whose real name is William Drayton, 54, was clocked going 79 mph in his Hyundai about 9:30 a.m. on the southbound parkway, near the Southern State Parkway, police said.

Flavor Flav, who grew up in Freeport and now lives in Las Vegas, was driving with 16 suspensions on his license, police said. Troopers also found a small amount of marijuana in his possession, police said.

The rapper was charged with a felony, aggravated unlicensed operation, and two violations, speeding and marijuana possession, police said.

He told police he was on his way to Roosevelt for his mother's funeral, said state police spokesman Frank Bandiero.

Flavor Flav had announced on Twitter that his mother, Anna Drayton, died on Dec. 31. His tweet said, "She lived a good life."

Usually, those charged with a felony would be locked up until arraignment, but under the circumstances, State Police consulted a Nassau assistant district attorney, who gave permission to release Flavor Flav to go to the funeral, Bandiero said.

"He did all the right things, and we tried to accommodate him," Bandiero said.

The rapper was released with an appearance ticket for Jan. 28 at Nassau County First District Court in Hempstead.

How the hell do you get 16 suspensions on your license?

Also, you'd think he'd learn to actually keep track of time and leave early. I mean, all he's gotta do is look down.

Houston man faces 180 days in jail for OVERpaying his child support and visiting his son too much?

Source: http://www.myfoxhouston.com/story/24359680/2014/01/03/father-pays-outstanding-child-support-still-gets-jail-time
HOUSTON (FOX 26) -

Clifford Hall says he's more than happy to pay child support for his 11-year-old son.

"I'm his father it's my responsibility to take care of him," Hall says.

But Hall says when the amount of child support was modified no one told him.

"I discovered for some reason his employer was withholding a large amount some weeks a small amount some weeks a zero amount some weeks," says Hall's attorney Tyesha Elam.

"I didn't want to go to jail basically," Hall says.

So Hall quickly paid almost 3 grand in back child support.

When Hall and his ex were in Judge Lisa Millard's court last November he owed nothing.

"Opposing counsel testified twice that he's all paid up," says Elam.

But the attorney representing the child's mother wanted Hall to pay her three grand in attorney fees and Judge Millard agreed.

Court documents also reveal Hall wasn't following the court's scheduled times to pick his son up for visitation.

Another modification Hall says he knew nothing about.

"The Judge ended up sentencing him to 6 months in jail." Elam says.

"When she said I remand you to the Harris County Jail for 180 days my mouth just dropped," says Hall.

"This entire situation is shocking to me," says community activist Quanell X. "I've never seen one like this."

Quanell X wants the state's judicial board to investigate.

"The court failed the child," he says. "The court failed Mr. Hall the system broke down."

"I'm like he couldn't have gotten a worse result," Elam says. "He could have gone in there with a monkey and gotten a better result. What did I do that my client has over paid over visited and is now paying 3 thousand dollars in attorney fees and is going to jail for 6 months."

"I can't be there for my son in jail," Hall says. "I can't pay child support in jail. This is not in the best interest of the child."

Judge Millard tells Fox 26 after she found Hall in contempt he walked out of the courtroom which she says is a big no no.

Judge Millard says Hall's attorney could have filed a motion for reconsideration which would have given her an opportunity to hear from both sides again and reevaluate the situation.

Hall's attorney is now working on an appeal.

Hall says in a few days he will turn himself in to the jail.

I'm usually not one to try and BEWD.............but fuck these bitches.

So the man has to end to pay $3,000 for his ex-wife's attorney fees, and has to spend time in jail for doing the right thing for his son?

This system needs to fucking change soon.

False Rape Accuser both imprisoned and forced to pay restitution to victim

This event actually took place back in December but was recently added to the National Registry of Exonerations
ohnathan Montgomery
In October 2007, 17-year-old Elizabeth Coast of Hampton, Virginia, told her parents that she had been molested more than six years earlier, on January 21, 2001, when she was 10 years old by a neighborhood boy who was 14 at the time.

Coast identified the boy as Johnathan Montgomery, who had been a freshman at Hampton High School in 2000, but moved to Iowa in 2001.

Montgomery was arrested in October 2007 and charged with forcible sodomy, aggravated sexual battery and sexual penetration with an object.

He went on trial before a judge who heard the case without a jury in the Circuit Court for the City of Hampton. Coast described the assault, which she said took place in her grandmother’s backyard, and said she did not tell anyone at the time because she thought her parents “would get mad” and because she was “really embarrassed.” She said she came forward because she thought she saw Montgomery at a Wal-Mart store.

Montgomery admitted that he tickled Coast, but denied ever molesting her or touching her inappropriately.

On June 23, 2008, the judge convicted Montgomery of forcible sodomy, aggravated sexual battery and sexual penetration with an object, saying the case was a “word against word situation.” Montgomery was sentenced to 45 years in prison, with all but 7-and-half years suspended.

By October 2012, Coast had been a civilian employee in the Hampton police department for three years. On October 30, 2012, Coast called Officer Jim Auer and told him she had “ruined a man’s life.” Two days later, on November 1, Coast made a videotaped statement at the police department admitting she had falsely accused Montgomery after her mother caught her looking at “sex stories” on the internet. Out of fear of her mother, Coast said she was looking at the material because she had been molested when she was 10 years old.

After she named Montgomery as her assailant, the lie snowballed. Coast said in the videotaped statement that nothing happened between her and Montgomery.

On November 9, 2012, Coast was fired from her job at the police department and charged with perjury.

On November 19, 2012, Montgomery, represented by the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project, requested that Gov. Robert McDonnell grant a conditional pardon. The pardon was granted and on November 20, 2012, Montgomery was released from prison. The Innocence Project, joined by the Virginia Attorney General’s Office, then filed a petition for a writ of innocence.

The petition was put on hold pending the disposition of the perjury charge against Coast. On May 21, 2013, Coast pled guilty to committing perjury at Montgomery’s 2008 trial. Coast said that she confessed to her lie because she could no longer handle its effect on her life. She said she realized she could not pursue God with that lie still present in her life. On August 19, 2013, Coast was sentenced to five years in prison with all but two months suspended. She was also ordered to pay $90,000 restitution to Montgomery.

On December 20, 2013, the Virginia Court of Appeals granted the petition and awarded Montgomery a certificate of innocence.

Felt it was worth sharing due to the fact this is one of the few cases I can recall offhand where the false accuser was meaningfully punished(let alone the only one I can think of at the moment where the accuser was forced to pay restitution to the victim instead of just paying fines from the courts). Oh and you guys know how much I love a good story about a woman fucking up

Xross Media Bar™ Themes Both sites have got a fair amount of cool stuff in their library. Want to make your own XMB theme? Download this XMB Theme Builder first, then download this upgrade. Install them and you can begin creating. Very easy program to use. Below is an image of what the creator/builder program looks like:

Spoiler:
Wallpapers
Wallbase. Largest collection of the slickest, coolest wallpapers on the internet, imo. These are great for computers, laptops, and of course, your PS3.
Spoiler:
HDD Expansion
Ran out of space on the stock hard drive in your PS3? Want to upgrade? Western Digital is the highest quality HDD brand you can get for your PS3, imo. As of now, they don't have a 1TB HDD of the PS3's 2.5" HDD size, so 750GB is the highest you can get now, which should already be more than enough.

While WD is my brand of choice, any 2.5" SATA HDD is compatible with the PS3. Even Solid State Drives (SSDs) and Hybrid Drives are compatible with the PS3, and Drives of any cache size and RPMs are compatible with the PS3, so there are a lot of choices out there. People have claimed to experience notable gains/advantages with Drives with higher RPMs, as well as using SSDs over HDDs, so you may want to keep that info in mind.

Do note, however, that a lot of people have had problems with the Seagate brand of HDDs. Buy at your own risk.

Side Note: Newegg is an amazing website for ordering these things. I don't think they charge shipping for these HDDs (they didn't charge me shipping), and they were FAST. My credit card info was authorized and the 750GB HDD I ordered was at my house a day and a half later. So yeah, I give Newegg my highest recommendations. For those of you late bloomers looking to jump into the HD age, they've also got great HDTVs at great prices, so check them out!

How do you replace your old HDD with the new one you bought?

First off, you will need a regular Phillips Screwdriver to do this.

MAINTENANCE
Want your Triple to last long? Up your maintenance game.
Spoiler:
Intercoolers
If you feel that your PS3 is usually stationed in an environment with inadequate temperature (Read: Hot and muggy as fuck), you may want to look into and invest in an Intercooler to keep it nice and cool. Also, remember that setting your PS3 vertically is better than horizontally if you're looking to keep it well-ventilated.
Spoiler:
Cleaning the PS3
Cleaning your PS3 is very simple.

For the outside of your PS3, rub dust/fingerprints/whatever off with micro-fiber cloth.

For the inside of your PS3, use a vacuum cleaner's hose to suck dust from the vents. Don't forget to open the PS3's HDD plating and vacuum there as well. Every once in a while, it will be necessary to completely remove the HDD and vacuum out it's housing area. You can also blow the dust through the vents using compressed air. I find cleaning most effective when the compressed air is used first, then the vacuum to suck out any remaining dust. Clean your PS3 out at least once a month.

DO NOT. I repeat, DO NOT attempt the PS3's hidden feature, the Fan Test. This hidden feature has been known to damage PS3s and shorten their lifespans. You have been warned.
Spoiler:
Repairs
Gophermods, LLC. This company is excellent for console repairs, among other things. Not to mention they're cheaper than other repair stores, including official Sony repair stations. They repair your console and return it to you in record time, and their work leaves little, if nothing else to be desired. Very professional group.

MEDIA SERVERS

Media Servers are great for boosting your PS3's capabilities as a media center powerhouse. Below is a list of good media server programs you can install on your computer or laptop to use for streaming media to your PS3.

GAMES
Last, but not least, the recommended games list. The list includes both exclusive and multiplatform games (Exclusives are marked with EXCLUSIVE tags. semi-EXCLUSIVE means that there is also a version of the game either on some phone device or PC). Let me know if I'm missing some games. Especially in the 'Games on the Horizon' section. I'm not bothering with Move, EyeToy, or Mini games.

Please if you can, try to talk more about the game than the system it is on. I will persuade people to abuse or troll flag mark those that just want to bring GameFAQs/Youtube bullshit. Keep the wars there.

If Killer Instinct being on the Xbox One does not fit what you are looking for in a Killer Instinct game, this thread does not fit you. You have been warned.

This will be the new home for people who want to talk about Killer Instinct for Xbox One.

I will be using this first page to update with info regarding how the game is played, the basic mechanics and general FAQs for the game and the Xbox One. This game is being more fronted by legends in the fighting game scene than probably any other fighting game ever. This is truly a community effort fighting game and we need to emphasize that first.

8/26: What do you REALLY GET with this Xbox Live deal?

http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/Day-One-12-Month-Xbox-Live-Gold-Membership/productID.282262700

Supposedly buy Xbox Live for 59.99 and get Killer Instinct Round One with Shadow Jago. Some people think this means you get all 8 characters + Shadow Jago for free if you buy Xbox Live. Which would essentially be like giving you the entire 19.99 Combo Breaker pack + an extra character. Hopefully this clears up soon so we can figure out if we can just buy a year of Xbox Live and not have to worry about actually purchasing the game.

-Overview of features/ideas/tidbits from E3. For those that just want a general synopsis of what features are in the game that make it worth the purchase. (text description below video)

Things I got from the video:
-GGPO/rollback style netcode. Wasn't specifically said that they are using GGPO, but they confirmed they are using rollback netcode and that the creator of GGPO (Pond3r/inkblot of SRK fame) is helping them with the code. Meaning they'll most likely actually be using GGPO.
-An explanation of the counter combo breaker system/what it is and how it works (they call them “bluffs” in the video)
-The way the announcers voice works (Will say “combo” after your combo if you cash out all the damage built up with a finisher, otherwise just says “master”, etc with no “combo” added to it.
-Ken Lobb himself feels like this is the KI he was trying to make back when he did KI 1
-If you can keep up with the lingo, the entire combat system is explained pretty well at about 30 minutes into it including linkers, manuals, frames, potential damage, KV meter (plays huge part in how long your combos can be), JUGGLE SYSTEM, difference between fierce and medium auto-doubles, hidden enders,
-They all check out this forum on a regular basis and read all the feedback/posts
-Updates and balancing will be done on the fly, wont have to wait for updates to be released they will just be downloaded automatically as soon as changes are made.
-Every characters different enders will do different things (extra damage, launcher, wall splay, refill meter, etc). You can do the ender that will best fit your needs in the moment.
- It has a “Super Deep” practice mode. They think most training modes in games “suck” and feel they have made a really nice training system. You will be able to watch tutorial videos as well using the xbox one snap feature while playing the game.
- They will be tweaking the game extensively after launch. - They are smart enough to know when to listen to the community, and when not to.
- They Hint at possible online tournaments
- They mention having a grappling character
- In depth explanation of Glacius’s gameplay mechanics
- Every combo breaker is a hard knockdown
- Quote from Ken Lobb “No Fucking way is this a free to play game.” Their goal giving Jago for free is trying to get as many people into the fighting game community as they can and are confident you will buy the game after playing it, and you do have the option just to buy the few characters you might want to play instead of the whole package.
- New features, characters, updates, etc will constantly be added. They are treating this as a long term investment. In this regard you will NOT have to buy newer, more updated version of the game. (unlike street figher… )
-They will show frame data in the moves lists.
-They are looking into being able to do different enders depending on player performance as mentioned in this very forum
-Every show they go to they will have a new playable character and tease another one as well and dont have a set number of characters yet, they want to grow the roster as long as people play the game
-Riptor was a girl

- Sabrewulf's 75 percent damage, counter hit, 2 meter+instinct meter/mode, double lockout (opponent guessed wrong on combo breaker twice) combo.
[/b] May not need to up the damage quite yet. http://www.twitch.tv/iebattlegrounds/c/2686684?t=3m40s

- For those worried about the online play, in the Evo panel it was said that the company is going to be using a rollback netcode similar to GGPO (do not admit to using the exact same coding/brand). They are directly consulting with Tony Cannon/Pond3r (the creator of GGPO and one of the founders of SRK) on how to utilize the netcode.

- Extra info on how Killer Instinct One's gameplay will work and what you should be thinking about that may be different compared to other fighters. In a game where combos are long and regular, the idea is to make a game where not every stray confirm is always leading to damage. Not to mention also stop people who try to break you out of your damage. The combos right now may seem like they don't do enough damage or the combo breakers may seem to occur too often, but once you read the below and add in top level players...you may want to think a bit. Especially since doing the below successfully adds A LOT damage to combos.
Spoiler:
Basically...you'll want to have played poker before if you want to understand exactly how this game works compared to other fighting games. It's a constant mind battle even during the combos and works around the idea of bluffs and reading that someone will bluff.

Bluff in poker = a bet or raise made with a hand which is not thought to be the best hand. To bluff is to make such a bet. The objective of a bluff is to induce a fold by at least one opponent who holds a better hand. The size and frequency of a bluff determines its profitability to the bluffer. By extension, the term is often used outside the context of poker to describe the act of making threats one cannot execute.

The idea is to read people and ALSO to read that the opponent is trying TO READ YOU. Reading that the opponent is trying to read you in this game is called a bluff (specifically utilized with the counter breaker). The bluff is the "I know you're trying to stop my combo, so I will stop you from stopping my combo" strat. You make the opponent think you are going to bash them with your super duper strong hand of rapid auto doubles with Sabrewulf that are easy to read and counter break. You go for a counter breaker by pressing MP+MK when they try to combo breaker, you blow through their combo breaker and continue your combo. Which stops them from being able to combo break for a few seconds during the "lockout" phase.

Essentially from the Evo panel there's a triangle of strategies as you're being put in a combo. More akin to a real fight, there are no true combos and you don't get anything guaranteed just because you are swinging attacks in succession. This is very radical in ideology compared to most 2d fighting games (or fighting games in general) where everything is rigid. You win a position in the spacing game, you get all of the damage from what you just hit confirmed. The only chance to get out being a burst mechanic in some anime/air dash games that recharges very slowly (on average will get access to the burst twice in a match at most) games and can be baited rather easily.

This in some ways in controversial, because in the past no fighting game that has worked around these types of mechanics has been heavily successful in tournament turnouts and general competitive player recognition. Dead or Alive has never gained a huge following in the tourney scene mostly due to this and it's aesthetics. The closest to that is probably 3S, but your combos in 3S are always rigid with no breakers. It's mainly the neutral game in 3S that only keeps adheres to the system and does so with not as much consequences as what is in KI.

Killer Instinct looks to change that. Keeping the neutral/footsies mostly rigid while allowing a lot of dynamics to be had during long combos instead of the typical "anime game style get put in a youtube video 1 player game" situation.

The triangle of strategies/yomi during a combo is

1.Breakers beat Attacks
2.Bluffs beat Breakers
3.Attacks beat Bluffs

Example of each scenario during a combo:

1. Typical KI1/2 anime game combo breaker/burst strategy. You know the opponent is doing a combo on you and you know they're doing the same canned part with the same move to maximize damage. You use a combo breaker/burst to get out of the combo. In Killer Instinct combo breakers are part of the engine in the same way that special moves are. There is no limit to how many times you can break a combo. There is only a penalty aka "lockout" for guessing a wrong breaker. In the older KI games there was no penalty as long as you eventually guessed right. Not anymore. Which is why knowing or feeling a pattern will be better than guessing.

Knowing this is typical for beating people who mash on easy execution HP/HK auto doubles (similar to chains) just to maximize damage quickly without much combo theory. Auto doubles can be broken much more easily than manuals (basically links) since you can break auto doubles during frames outside of their hit stun. Higher level play will revolve around the use of LP/LK, MP/MK auto doubles or manuals (links) to give the opponent less time to reaction break you and force it more towards a read or a guess. With the lighter doubles and manuals they will have to guess the type of attack and do it at the right, strict timing which will make the success rate for the breaker really low at that point.

2. This is where things get interesting. As you're doing combos you may be getting used to that typical heavy auto double combo or manual that gets you the damage. Let's say you haven't practiced the game enough to understand how to switch up your combos too much and the opponent gets pretty solid at catching the strict timing for your manual that you always use. You can then go "alright, you're screwing me out of my max damage, so I'm going to catch you trying to break my combo and use your breaker against you". If you press MP+MK you go into a stance mid combo. This stance does nothing, but break combo breakers. If successful you'll blow through their breaker, be able to continue your combo as normal with a damage increase. On top of the damage increase they will be locked out of being able to break a combo again for 4 seconds. Giving you time to throw in your heavy auto doubles, rapid doubles or manuals and activate instinct mode for maximum damage.

This will be one of the key tools to use for those that think the game is too combo breaker heavy and want to keep their combos going against novice to average players who abuse the break system.

3. Attacks beat bluffs. This is where the yomi during combos comes full circle. This won't be necessary or seen a whole lot until high level play really kicks in. This is when you're done going through all of the "I knew you thought I was going for max damage, so I stopped your attempt to stop my max damage". Now the opponent can turn that table back on you again. "I know you knew that I thought you were going for max damage, so now I know you think that I think you're going for max damage so you're going to bluff and actually not have any real cards. I know you don't have any cards and will punish you with my hand of combos instead. You thought I was a combo breaker masher, but I am beyond that and know you are scared of me mashing breakers."

This is essentially the idea of setting the opponent into thinking you are going to break their combo, because you may have tried once or twice and succeeded or failed and got counter broken/bluffed. You catch their bluff and know they really don't have an arsenal of weapons or big set of cards to throw at you. They try to catch you escaping their big combo, but you are patient and force them to whiff their counter breaker and now you are putting them in a combo. The circle is complete.

Lockouts: Lockouts are a new thing to strive for in Killer Instinct. Now that everything is breakable there's a lot more incentive to get out of long combos. Well...as long as you don't get locked out. Unlike the older KI games, you can't just guess forever on getting out of a combo. If you really love combos and want to put someone in a big damage "put em in a movie" combo, you can still do so. You'll just have to read into if the opponent is trying to break the combo or if you're trying to stop the opponent from breaking your combo. If the try to break the combo and you mix up your doubles and manuals well enough, they time the breaker wrong or use the wrong breaker and get locked out. If they guess right on the combo breaker, BUT YOU KNOW they are going to combo breaker, you can counter breaker and they will also get locked out.

Once the opponent gets locked out, they can't combo break again for 3 to 4 seconds (I believe it's 3 for missed combo break, 4 for abusing combo break and getting counter broken). This also ups the damage and if a counter breaker caused this, resets the KV meter (potential hits you can do before person breaks out of combo without any penalty).

Legends of the FGC that working on/with this game that you should know more about:

FilthyRich Essentially the game's Seth Killian. Working the hardest to ensure that the community is actively playing a role in what happens with the game and relaying what is happening to the community. Top Tekken player and many of his videos from Tekken 5 to Tag 2 are on youtube. His ability to stay calm and collected during the Xbox One booing at Evo shows he is the man for the job.

Ken Lobb One of the original developers for the KI team, resurrected specifically to help with the authenticity of the game. Went on a huge winning streak at E3 against multiple top and generally well known players of fighting games at the game. Shows after all of those years he is still formidable at fighting games and isn't a bad guy to have working on them.

James Goddard Old school SF/ST heads know who this guy is and others may have at least heard the name. The history of SF2 worked where Americans had a big part in the release of Super SF2 and Super SF2 Turbo. Originally Capcom didn't intend for those games to be released, but people like James pushed for such a release. James Goddard was the creator of the character DeeJay in the SF universe and brought a unique character design and worldly aspect to the SF series. One of the only 3 characters in SF history to be designed by an American. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dee_Jay

He also developed the acclaimed Genesis/SNES fighting game Weapon Lord that system/feature wise, was probably ahead of its time. Had a parry mechanic, fatalities and an interesting combo system. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weaponlord (Project Lead: James Goddard)

The only fighting game that litearlly let you style on people during a fatality. Juggle their decapitated head until it splits into multiple pieces all over the battle field.

MikeZ Really isn't too much that needs to be said. Huge fan of Killer Instinct and Marvel vs. Capcom 2, who used concepts from both games to help create the well received indie fighter, Skullgirls. Known for doing very well with very unorthodox, grappler based teams in MVC2 and being a strong Blazblue player in the earlier days of the game. He's done more combo videos for Killer Instinct, MVC2 and other games than you can shake 2 sticks at. As a game programmer he is most likely overseeing development of the game and adding his own input for the direction the game should go in. It's been said that he's already figured out some really nasty combos within the game engine. It'll be interesting to see what he ends up doing within the game.

Buktooth A staple of the CVS2 community who has won quite a few local and major events in the game. Known for playing an unorthodox, execution centric team of N groove Hibiki, Iori, R2 Morrigan. Known for playing Ibuki in SFIV and helped write the guides for Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Did a lot of FAQs for CVS2 on GameFAQs so his helping the community predates before many people here were eve playing fighting games competitively.

This does nothing, but show that this is the premiere game to buy if you are looking to support the fighting game community for next gen. It doesn't get better than this. The community of the last 20 years is literally inside this game.

Filthy Rich's System Info: Learn more about the game from a Tekken legend and the game's main PR guy. Explains the basics of the combo system. The combo system is rather unique compared to most other fighting games, but you'll have some characters like Sabrewulf who have typical light, medium, hard chain starters. >>>>http://doublehelixgames.com/forum/index.php?threads/killer-instict-2013-introduction-mechanics-and-character-guide.109/

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2011/05/110524-densest-matter-created-lhc-alice-big-bang-space-science/
NatGeo wrote:

Densest Matter Created in Big-Bang Machine

"Besides black holes, there's nothing denser" we've seen, physicist says.

A superhot substance recently made in the Large Hadron Collider (pictures) is the densest form of matter ever observed, scientists announced this week.
Known as a quark-gluon plasma, the primordial state of matter may be what the entire universe was like in the immediate aftermath of the big bang.
The exotic material is more than a hundred thousand times hotter than the inside of the sun and is denser than a neutron star, one of the densest known objects in the universe.
"Besides black holes, there's nothing denser than what we're creating," said David Evans, a physicist at the University of Birmingham in the U.K. and a team leader for the LHC's ALICE detector, which helped observe the quark-gluon plasma.
"If you had a cubic centimeter of this stuff, it would weigh 40 billion tons."
Densest Matter Acts Like Perfect Liquid
By triggering hundreds of thousands of high-speed collisions each second, physicists using the LHC hope to break subatomic particles into even more basic forms of matter, which can be used to study what the universe was like a trillionth of a second after the big bang.
LHC scientists made the quark-gluon plasma last year by smashing together lead ions—lead atoms that have been stripped of their electrons—at nearly the speed of light.
As the name suggests, quark-gluon plasma is made up of quarks and gluons. Quarks are the elementary building blocks of positively charged protons and neutral neutrons, which make up atomic cores. Gluons are particles that "glue" quarks together using the so-called strong force.
It's thought that, as the universe cooled, the quark-gluon plasma that existed after the big bang coalesced to form matter as we know it today. (Related: "Strange Particle Created; May Rewrite How Matter's Made.")
The quark-gluon plasma created at the LHC is about twice the amount and about twice as hot as quark-gluon plasma previously made using the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, New York.
Still, the plasmas created by the two machines are very similar, scientists said this week during the Quark Matter 2011 Conference in Annecy, France. For example, scientists have now confirmed that both versions behaved like so-called perfect liquids, with nearly zero friction.
"If you stir a cup of tea with a spoon and then take the spoon out, the tea stirs for a while and then it stops. If you had a perfect liquid and you stirred it, it would carry on going around forever," Evans explained.
Some theories predict that, in the extreme heat of the very early universe, quarks and gluons would have been even more widely spaced, creating a quark-gluon plasma that behaved like a gas. The ALICE team is therefore looking for evidence of gas-like behavior in the early stages of their quark-gluon plasma formation.
"There are slight differences between our measurement and RHIC's," Evans said.
"It could well be that in the very early stages [of our quark-gluon plasma], it's behaving more like a gas, and then as it cools it turns into a liquid, but we will need to investigate this further."
Highs and Lows of Making Matter
If this gas-to-liquid transition has indeed been observed, it would be surprising, since theory predicts that it should occur at much higher temperatures than those currently being produced at the LHC, said Thomas Ludlam, chair of the physics department at Brookhaven.
"I would regard the ALICE claim that they may be seeing hints of this as very interesting, but rather speculative at this stage," said Ludlam, who was not involved in the project.
The results are nevertheless very exciting, he added. "They show that the LHC"—which went online in 2009 after more than a year's delay due to mechanical problems—"is squarely in the game now."
(Related: "LHC Gets First Results; Step Toward 'God Particle'?")
Also, by comparing the lower energy quark-gluon plasma created at the RHIC with the higher energy version from the LHC, scientists could gain a better understanding of how and when the substance changed as the universe cooled, Ludlam said.
"I think we're now at a point where, with these two machines, we can look over a very wide energy range at the properties of the quark-gluon plasma as it evolves with temperature and density," Ludlam said.
With this goal in mind, he added, RHIC scientists have been trying for the past year to create a quark-gluon plasma at even lower energies, to find the temperature at which quarks and gluons come together to form protons and neutrons.
Meanwhile, the LHC is still operating at only half of its maximum energy, and the ALICE team expects to create even denser forms of quark-gluon plasma as the machine ramps up in the future.

I'm interested in how gravity would behave with matter so dense on such a small scale? Quark-Gluon plasma sounds delicious.
